Looking for April email marketing campaign ideas? This month is full of unique opportunities to connect with customers and tap into their springtime mindset. This is the first in a monthly series where I’ll share a few ideas for campaigns in the month ahead – borrow inspiration from me and fill your calendar with meaningful and memorable content for your subscribers!
April email marketing campaign ideas
Hang on to your calendars, kids! This is going to be fun!
April 1 – April Fool’s
I’ve been in this business long enough that I feel like I’ve probably seen every iteration of April Fool’s deals. Maybe I’m just an old cranky-pants, but “25% OFF: No foolin’!” and “You’d be a fool to miss this offer” are a little tired. If you’re a playful brand, you might try an ACTUAL prank. It could be a playful email announcing a silly new product line, or you could prank your team members to give your customers an inside look at your company culture (but no mean-spirited stuff, please!).
For a cautionary tale in April Fool’s “broadcast” content, check out this gem from a decade ago on the Tim Ferris blog.
April 3 – World Party Day
Do you like to party? ME TOO. And good thing, too, because April 3 is World Party Day. If anything you sell would contribute to throwing a great party, World Party Day would make a great April email marketing campaign idea for you to capitalize on!
OR, are you THROWING a party: a customer appreciation day, a members-only lunch or a springtime social? Send the invitation on World Party Day, and make sure you use the holiday in your email subject line to pique interest.
April 10 – Siblings Day
In addition to being a GREAT day to recreate an old childhood photo (a-hem!) Siblings Day could be a great day to send an email campaign. Select a few awesome products to put in the spotlight as the perfect gift for “The middle child” or “The Most Devoted Sister.” If you happen to operate a family-owned business, share your sibling story with your customers as a way to deepen their connection to your business and the people behind it.
April 12 – Grilled Cheese Day
I’m just going to leave this here.
April 21 – Easter Sunday
There are so many directions to go with Easter, ya’ll. And there are just as many reasons to leave it alone, if I’m honest. In my wine industry days, I did encounter some backlash to using the resurrection of Jesus Christ as a way to sell hooch. Take my holiday marketing don’ts post as a cautionary tale: if there’s a real, authentic connection between your business and this holiday, by all means!
P.S. Ask me sometime about the year that Easter Sunday fell on April Fool’s Day. It was last year, so the scars are still fresh.
April email marketing campaign ideas that aren’t about a holiday
Oh yea I’ve got those, too. Baseball season has started. The Masters golf tournament is on. Spring is in full swing, with April showers a very real concern. And shoot, for the planners out there, Mother’s Day isn’t that far off. Pick a couple of your favorites, or one a week for all I care!
HOT TIP: Scared to go all out on a new April email marketing campaign idea? Pilot the concept on social media to see if it really resonates!
Summin’ it up:
When it comes to April email marketing campaign ideas, the possibilities are endless. There is no “one size fits all” approach to creating meaningful content, other than this: your ideal customer should be at the heart of all the campaign ideas you end up launching!
Ask yourself:
- What are my ideal customers thinking about or needing in April?
- What do I have that is uniquely fit to that need?
- How do I use the month of April to connect those two in surprising, delightful, meaningful ways?
I love a good worksheet, and created one to guide you through the process of identifying the connections between a campaign theme and your ideal customer. Have at it, I’ll give it to you for free(ish).
Which of these ideas are you toying with? Which of these ideas had you LOLing (okay, no laughing at Grilled Cheese Day!)?
