Let’s get ready to ROUNDUPPPPPPP (July email marketing inspiration, that is).
I love summertime. July is a HOT month for holidays, for celebrations, and all things outside. Take a minute to read this roundup featuring July email marketing inspiration, then go fill in your July calendar!
July email marketing inspiration: Independence Day
I feel like most of the people reading this blog are in the United States, so you know the 4th of July is going to be the first topic of conversation. In the spirit of independence, July 4th tends to be a pretty rambunctious holiday filled with meaningful but casual indulgences, lots of sunscreen, and of course, fireworks.
If your business is OPEN on the 4th of July, be sure to let your subscribers know to put a visit to your location on their agenda. Consider doing a 4th of July sale that runs July 4 through the weekend (after all, many folks will take the 5th off since its a Friday, and make a whole adventure out of it).
The first Independence Day was July 4, 1777. Could you bundle together a collection of products and offer it for $74.77 (on the 4th of July only)?
It’s just a thought…
If you’re speedy, you could even do a pre-July 4 promotion featuring red, white, and blue creative and encouraging people to stock up on the essentials needed for their celebration.
Themes to embrace include patriotism, independence, history, Americana, red/white/blue, and of course, sparklers.
I’m serious! If you don’t already have some leftovers from last year (I always overbuy my sparklers), get some TODAY and get some pictures with them! Original photography featuring your product with some dope sparkly action could add some serious wow factor to your email campaigns. It can also create some fun content for your social media feed on the 4th of July (and leading up to it).
July email marketing inspiration – Hashtag Holidays
Oh, you thought I wouldn’t do this to you? I LOVE hashtag holidays, but only when they connect to your customers and business. Here are a few in July that stood out to me.
July 5 – Workaholics Day
I mean, if you are a small business owner there’s a likelihood you LOVE to work. Send an email to your subscribers sharing three reasons you love what you do and thanking them for letting you be a workaholic for them!
If you serve other businesses, it’s possible that your customers are workaholics. Reward those hardworking heroes with a special free resource in their inbox to help them work smarter (not harder). Or offer a few free consultations designed to help your workaholic subscribers unlock a few free hours in their day!
July 17 – World Emoji Day
I wish I weren’t slowly adopting emojis, but I am. And even though this has ZERO content marketing substance, you COULD use an emoji or two in a subject line and mention it playfully in a postscript or in your preheader text. Or you could go ALL THE WAY THE OTHER DIRECTION and do your email on July 17 with a mix of emojis and text, like those old school candy-bar posters that you used to make for your friends in gradeschool.
July email marketing inspiration – Seasonal Themes and Mindsets
It’s HOT by the time July rolls around. Do you have a product or service that helps your subscribers stay cool? Share three ways to beat the heat this July, with a call to action to purchase.
Everything I said LAST month about BBQs and outdoor entertaining? Double down in July.
Also SUMMER VACATION! Many people take advantage of the time off school to take their family on an extended trip away. Do you have some great resources for finding a house-sitter, packing tips, traveling with kids tips, etc? Share them!
Are you a destination for summer vacationers? You probably missed your window by now (or hopefully you didn’t, and you’re totally booked)! But if you want to drum up some extra business you could put together a staycation offer to your local subscribers. I LOVE STAYCATIONS. I’ll open that email any day!
Don’t forget those ops…
I personally am taking a four day camping trip in July. My email campaigns leading up to that get-away will expressly communicate I’ll be out of pocket for a few days. I want my clients to be aware of my inability to be responsive. That’s more of an operational thing to consider, but an important part of your communications strategy in the summer months!
Back to July email marketing inspiration!
Wedding season! Holy moly, there are so many weddings in the summer. Feature your best wedding attire, thoughtful wedding gift ideas, tips and tricks to be the best behaved guest at the celebration, stress-relief products and services for the bride (or the mother of the bride… or the bridal party). Who wants to be the one that buys the dish towels off the registry? Nobody.
Summin’ it up
Whatever your business – B2B, B2C, brick and mortar, digital, or a mix of all of those things – you’re in the H2H business. That’s human to human. Think like your customers think. Draw a direct line between what you offer and how that solves your customer’s problems or helps them achieve their desires. July is full of great opportunities to do this, so don’t be silent! Share the love with your subscribers to add value to their summer. When you serve before you sell, your bottom line will benefit naturally.
