Birthday Emails 2.0

It’s my birthday! No, it’s not. But, it was my birthday yesterday. And while I did a showcase on triggered emails in 2018 that included a birthday gem from Chubbies, it seemed only fitting to give birthday emails love with a dedicated post. Here’s an “Erica’s Birthday Celebration” round-up featuring the best birthday emails I received this year!

…but first, a musical selection to accompany your reading

Literally, I wanted to play that song on my birthday EVER SINCE I HEARD THAT SONG. And, that was almost a year ago, so…

Okay, on to business.

Birthday Emails that Rocked!

PIZZA HUT!

BIRTHDAY EMAILS - PIZZA HUT

Fun animation. Playful, on-brand headline. And mystery-factor to help increase clicks (I mean, I gotta know what my DEAL is). I totally got free breadsticks, by the way.

ROCKSBOX

You guys, these people are crushing it. I love their business model (borrow three pieces of jewelry every month, buy what you love, return what you don’t), and I was delighted by their birthday email. Even though $5 off isn’t a HUGE price incentive, it’s meaningful enough to make me feel treated, and it doesn’t “discount” any of their products. Boom!

JUSTFAB

birthday emails - justfab

I’m all for self care, especially on my birthday, so I am totes digging the “TREAT YOURSELF” CTA. Plus, for those of you who think the only way to make the cut is by discounting, check it out. No dollars off. No percentage discount. Just good old fashioned celebration and style.

AND FOR THE GRAND FINALE… T-REX WEARING A PARTY HAT?

BIRTHDAY EMAILS - PROVIDENCE

I’ll admit, it isn’t the sexiest email, and I’m REALLY unsure of the motivation for the dinosaur in the party hat. I almost didn’t keep reading, the image was so ridiculous and out of context. BUT – the rest of the content, when coming from a healthcare organization, is totally solid, and actually really interesting, too. Sure, if something was wrong with me on my birthday it would be really simple for me to make an appointment, thanks to two simple and clean calls to action. BUT, the good stuff is the stuff from the blog! Interesting content that would make me go “huh!” Gold!

Summin’ it up

If you aren’t sending an email on your subscribers’ birthday, I would encourage you to take a look at this broad spectrum of examples. There is always a way to delight, surprise, educate, inform, or maybe even TREAT your customer on their special day.

If you aren’t already, keep a look-book of birthday emails that you can take inspiration from.

And be sure to sign up for Email Essentials 101 through the form right over there –> to learn how to put together your own winning automated email programs (including a kickass birthday email).

And finally, in closing, this:

Because I’m TOTALLY like Oprah on my birthday.
