Gaining Momentum

Are you more of a reader or a watcher? My Learnin’ Thursday video and text below cover similar content. So, pick your preferred info consuming method… and let’s go!

It’s Hudson Month! (Go to ericawalterwrites.com/july-is-hudson-month to learn more.) And because it’s Hudson’s Month, I’m doing way more than normal. I’m running a 5k each week (spread out over three days) and I’m donating 10% of profits to the Forget-Me-Not-Foundation (which takes time to calculate, plan, & promote). And, of course I have my normal work and mom stuff to get done. YIKES! (Can all my busy mommas say AMEN?!)

All that to say… I’m super busy. It’s hard to keep up with my long-term projects & goals at the moment.

One of those projects is my podcast. I have not published a new episode since Mother’s Day. And the ironic thing is, the longer I wait, the more pressure I keep putting on myself to make sure it’s a good one. This then gets me in my head and stressed about it… so I don’t record an episode.

You know what the solution to this is?

ACTION STOPS ALL OF THIS OVERWHELM.

Make small progress every day. It’s amazing what kind of momentum you can generate with only a small amount of momentum. So go do the thing! That’s all the commitment you need, maybe just 5 minutes. Stop wasting time worrying. Whatever the project you are stressing about is, get out of your head and take action!

P.S. One way to keep making small progress every day and start gaining momentum is by NOT doing everything.

ACCEPT HELP GRACIOUSLY

Holy Moly! If there ever was a time I needed to accept help graciously, it is NOW.

My mom offered to help me make the cake for Hudson’s Birthday. Usually, pride would sneak up and have me saying, “No this is my thing. I do it every year.” But, THANK GOODNESS I said yes, because I appreciated her help. She baked it and I decorated it. Letting her help in this way was really important for both me and for her.

Also, I am accepting help in my business by allowing my employees to take on a bit more of my load, and I just hired on another employee (my amazing old intern, Elena)! Yay!

Here’s what I want you to take away from this:

If you are doing everything in your business, or if you are doing everything in your personal life, YOU NEED TO STOP. Look for small ways you can accept help today. People LOVE to help, so you’ll be making them and yourself feel better. And you’ll free up more of your space to do the work you are uniquely called to, and qualified to do.

Speaking of help, if you have been wanting a little help on your email marketing game, I have a resource kit you are going to LOVE. The Bootstrapper’s Email Marketing Success System, LITE has guides, worksheets, and cheat sheets that will give you a leg up on your email marketing game. And best of all, I’m donating 100% of sales from this product in July 2021 to the Forget-Me-Not-Foundation, so you are helping yourself and making a charitable contribution while you’re at it. WOOT!

CHALLENGE

How will you take small actions daily to gain momentum this week? Will it include accepting some help? Let me know in the comments!
